Wildlife crime is sweeping the planet. The illegal trafficking of wildlife is now one of the world’s largest criminal industries, with links to international terrorism networks.
High Target Species such as elephant and rhino are being hunted to extinction. These animals are the most difficult to protect, as poachers go to the most extreme lengths to kill them. We are partnering with multiple direct action conservation organizations protecting some of the most endangered species on earth. We also work closely with local communities through a strategy called anti-poaching through anti-poverty. Providing and supporting local people to become educated, employed and to provide themselves with a means to survive so they need not resort to poaching. By also creating sanctuary areas for animals orphaned through poaching, we are preserving the genetic capital of various species while aggressively fighting to stop illegal wildlife trade and trafficking.
We partner with local relief organizations in Southern Africa to provide immediate relief to farmers and livestock. This area has been ravaged by the biggest drought experienced in the past century. Through the efforts of the Fauna Fund and our partners, we supply animal feed and irrigation equipment to farmers whose livelihoods have been decimated and have nowhere else to turn. We also spend significant time, effort and funds on education programs for farmers and their staff focusing on sustainable farming practices and effective livestock management.
